The wild, rugged beauty of Bali’s west coast provided the inspiration for the Rock Bar, as the most iconic venue to enjoy a famed Bali sunset and the stunning coastal landscape. Often credited as being "Bali’s best bar", Rock Bar is located along the 1.3 kilometer coastline of AYANA Resort and Spa Bali, a 77-hectare property that features 78 private luxury villas and a 290-room hotel. Taking the concept of "on the rocks" to a whole new level, this innovative open-top bar is perched 14 meters above Jimbaran Bay on a rocky outcrop at the base of towering cliffs.

The minimalist design emphasizes the natural beauty and layout of the rocky outcrop, completely open to the elements. The ceiling is the sky, the lights the stars, the walls the cliff-face, and the music the ocean. This is what a romantic sunset cocktail is all about.

A spectacular feat of architecture and engineering, the Rock Bar is accessed via an inclinator (inclined outdoor elevator) that traverses the cliff-face.

Designer Yasuhiro Koichi of Japan’s Design Studio SPIN, whose works include NOBU Tokyo and NOBU Hong Kong, ensured that guests would enjoy the best Bali sunset views from every single vantage point. Koichi’s signature style is evident in the use of traditional materials, motifs and colors, which are given a contemporary edge with cutting-edge lighting and clean lines.

As you approach, softly angled lighting guides you up a small set of stairs to a split-level platform made from ironwood, a hardy material traditionally used in ship construction. A 1m-high glass wall surrounds the bar’s perimeter.

Long counter-tables flank the illuminated, glass bar, a stunning artwork by renowned Japanese glass artist Seiki Torige, who layered thousands of paper-thin glass "canes" on top of each other for a sparkling effect.

A DJ booth sits high amongst the rocks with an outdoor Bose stereo system, to cater for regular events and private functions. Jutting out from the cliff-face, crystallized rocks add natural glitter to this spectacular venue.

Either side of the main rock, timber platforms featuring comfortable day-beds and sofas provide additional viewing points across the ocean. One is accessed via a natural cave, a unique entrance that leads to the terrace and a "secret" garden over the beach. As you emerge from the softly-lit cave and the mist, a large crystallized rock hundreds of years old is displayed in a wall panel as a stunning piece of natural art. Just another of the priceless treasures at AYANA Resort and Spa Bali.
